Vatican Splendors in Fort Lauderdale has closed. Watch here for announcements on future venues! PNC Bank and AutoNation are presenting a Lecture and Performance Series in conjunction with the exhibition. This series features three daytime events (11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.) and three evening events (6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.). All lectures/performances will be held in the Auditorium and last for approximately 45-60 minutes, to be followed by lunch (daytime)or light fare and fine wines (evenings) in the Marks Gallery. The Exhibition, and all public areas of the Museum, including the galleries and the Museum Store/Café, are wheelchair accessible. All public entrances are wheelchair accessible.

Motorized wheelchairs are permitted. Wheelchair-accessible restrooms, each with a water fountain outside it, are located on the first and second floors.

Elevators are available throughout the Museum.

Experience 2,000 years of Vatican art and history

Michelangelo items and works by Bernini, Giotto, and others. Objects dating back to the first century. From the venerated relics (bone fragments) of Saint Peter and Saint Paul to personal items of Pope John Paul II, this exhibit comprises one of the largest Vatican collections ever to tour North America. Many items have never before been on public view. From culture to history to art, explore how the Papacy has impacted-and been impacted by-the world throughout the centuries.

Exhibition Gallery Layout and Artistic Highlights

Vatican Splendors: A Journey through Faith and Art features approximately 200 works of art and historically significant objects, many of which have never left the Vatican.

The exhibition is organized into 10 galleries that illustrate the evolution of the Church and its papacy beginning with Saint Peter through the papacy of Pope Benedict XVI, with thematic areas highlighting important developments, moments, people and events tied to the history of the Catholic Church and the Vatican, reflected in both important historical objects and artistic expression from different eras. The objects are presented in galleries and recreated environments that enhance the visitor's understanding of their historical and artistic significance.

Exhibition designers want visitors to feel transported to the Vatican, from the underground catacombs where the remains of Saint Peter were discovered to the magnificent papal chambers found above ground. From the sights and sounds of the grand Basilica to a touchable cast of John Paul II’s hand, the exhibition is a multi-sensory experience.

The art object exhibits is organized and circulated in conjunction with the Congregazione per l'Evangelizzazione dei Popoli of the Vatican City State. The exhibition is produced by Evergreen Exhibitions in association with the Missouri History Museum. Objects in the exhibition are on loan from the The Reverenda Fabbrica of Saint Peter, the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside-the-Walls, the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, the Vatican Library, the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, and the Apostolic Floreria. Additional objects are on loan by the Papal Swiss Guard and private collections. In St. Louis, the exhibition is organized in association with Missouri History Museum. The Missouri History Museum has been active in the St. Louis community since 1866. Founding members established the organization for the purpose of saving from oblivion the early history of the city and state.
